PIA OSTE-ALEXANDER

Born in Stockholm, Pia Oste-Alexander attended art schools in Sweden, Vienna, and Florence, studying mainly textiles, but also painting and printmaking. Pia moved to Woodstock in the late 1950s and is where she currently still lives.

Oste-Alexander is widely admired for her innovative collage work and white-line woodblock prints. She often uses kimono fabrics, maps and fragments of her white-line woodblock prints. The woodblock prints are an exacting and labor intensive process. Influenced by traditional Japanese technique, one print has several hundred applications of paint.
